Terrorism and Gun Ownership, Part II

As the world gets flatter, more global, and smaller America’s oceans will no longer protect it.  The terrorist networks are losing Iraq as a focus point.  The American people are going back to sleep and forgetting what happened 10 years ago.  All of this is pushing another terrorist attack in America.  Yesterday I talked about what would probably happen first, mall shootings, as the terrorist look at what is the easiest, cheapest, and what can do lots of damage they will go back to their roots.

Americans will step up to the challenge and mall shootings will eventually be stopped by armed citizens, off duty cops, and a couple will go a long time and a SWAT team will finish it.  The longer the event goes, the greater the effect of the attack.  They will be able to kill the most people and get the most news coverage.  The ones stopped by citizens and off duty cops will be considered failures.  After they have a bunch of failures, then they will try something else.

Traditionally next will be bombs.  But it could be worst.  I think the terrorist will try to do more creative attacks like in Iraq.  They have spent the last 8 years experimenting with what works and what doesn’t.  I personally think they will bring some of that creativity to the U.S. in the form of multiple bombs chained together and bombs that are delayed to get the crowd that shows up after the initial explosion.  They may even start mixing bombs with ambush attacks on our law enforcement and fire personnel.

Bombers are more dangerous because they have the ability to learn from experience and have some training to learn how to put the thing together.  A terrorist that is just shooting up a busy place will more then likely die in the attack, have minimal to no training, and have to take a lot of time even at a crowded place to inflict multiple casualties.  The higher body count is what they are looking for.

In all these situations you will be the first responder!  Law Enforcement, the Military, and Fire Department can’t be everywhere all the time.  Chances are the presence of any of these will deter a terrorist to try some place else.  Once a terrorist attack starts you are the one that can make a huge difference on how many people die.  Continue studying and learning basic self defense, basic first aid and casualty care, and continue training yourself on avoidance.  Being able to spot an attack before it happens is by far the best way to survive it, and the best way to end it.

Law Enforcement and Military throughout the world are working hard to stop terrorism and doing a good job at it.  The problem is they have to be perfect.  If they miss just one terrorist, that is all that is necessary.  Anti-terrorism units are better then ever, but can’t stop them all.  Eventually something will happen again here in the U.S., and you are the one that can stop it.

Remember, a knife and gun are only tools, you mind is the weapon, train it well.

Stay Safe,

Ben
