Today:  Today is a Truck Talk Tuesday (TTT).  Just you and me on a long drive sitting in the truck talking about guns and self defense.

This week is a question from a listener about know shooting standards.  Should you care?  I don’t?

Most shooting standard drills suck for self defense.  You start training to the drill and forget what the drill is suppose to teach you.  The only thing drills are good for is to see if you are improving.

You can shoot a drill and then a couple months, or after a class, shoot it again and see if you improved.

The basics I went over are:

  • One Hole Drill
  • Dot Torture Test (here is the Dot Torture Target as promised)
  • Draw to First Shot
  • Move, Draw, Fire an extended Failure Drill
  • Bill Drill and/or 5×5 (here is a 5×5 Target that explains it)
  • Casino Drill (Buy Targets here)

Go listen to the episode for why these are my favorites.

Bonus… The one I think is the most fun is El Presidente.  Not a really good value for self defense, but a lot of fun to set up and shoot again and again.
