Beyond Concealed Carry Qual Day
Learn how to run the gun faster and better, with more accuracy and more confidence. These skills will help you in a fight as well as in a competition.
I created this course to be a fun way to improve your skills and to find out where you are in your skill development, while having a great time on the range.
These are the drills and friendly competitions we shoot during high level, serious fighting classes to break up the seriousness of defending yourself with deadly force and to have some fun on the range. Instead of one of these during the day, we are going to have a fun day of it.
By the end of the day you will know where your skills are compared to lots of other shooters and where you can improve the most… we’ve all got things we want to be better at.
This is an eight hour course for the intermediate to advanced shooter that will make you a better shooter.
What We Will Be Shooting:
Drills:
- 1-Hole Accuracy
- Cassino Drill
- 5×5 Drill
- El Presidente
- Fast Drill
- Mark of the Best
- Hateful 8
- Quick Draw
Qualifications:
- IDPA 5×5
- Texas DPS
- FBI
- Sky Marshall
We start the day with fun and see how much precision can you really do. The 1-Hole drill gives you something you can continually work on at any range facility and see right where you are. It’s fun and challenging and you can see how good you can be.
The 5×5 drill is just how fast you can do 5 rounds starting from the holster. You will get multiple tries at this and makes a fun informal competition between shooters and the instructors.
All the drills create and build skills on each other. None of them are perfect for self defense or are geared for that. They are to see how well you can do a particular set of skills with your given handgun and ammunition.
All of them need different skills outside of just pulling the trigger. Some are rewarded for more accuracy and some for more speed. It’s to find what you can do.
We will be doing a working lunch where some of the qualifications will run. Some we can only do one at a time and will work that during lunch time. You will have plenty of time to eat, but not enough time to go someplace, so bring your lunch.
After lunch it’s all about qualifications. Each one more difficult then the one before it. You’ll see how you stack up against local law enforcement standards as well as Federal. If we have to we’ll do the DOJ qualification too. The military Qual is too easy. DOJ was much tougher.
We will end with the Sky Marshal test. This test looks easy on paper, but is extremely difficult to complete. The times are tough and the accuracy part is unforgiving. It’s either a hit or a miss, and you can’t miss any to qualify.
You will have a great time learning what you can and cannot do with your gun and how well you stack up against other shooters and law enforcement.
What You’ll Need:
- Serviceable handgun in .380 or larger.
9mm compact to full sized autos are recommended
.22s and revolvers are allowed
Bring your best shooting gun to see how well you can do. Or you can just shoot your carry gun. - At least 3 Magazines or speed loaders for your gun.
More is better. You will need at least 3 to complete the drills, 5 is a good number. - A proper belt worn holster for your specific make/model of pistol.
Those manufactured by Concealment Solutions, Comp-Tac, Bladetech and Dale Fricke are recommended.
NO BLACKHAWK SERPA HOLSTERS they have contributed to multiple accidents over the years and we don’t want any part of someone accidentally shooting themselves. - Belt Worn Magazine carrier or speedloaders (ammo in your pocket will not be fast enough for this class)
- Long Pants or shorts with belt loops
- A sturdy Belt which can hold the weight of your holstered gun and spare magazines. One designed for carrying a gun are the best
- Sturdy footwear – Hiking boots, outdoor shoes, etc…
no open toed footwear is allowed on the range - We recommend as much bare skin as possible be covered up,
long sleeves and a high collared shirt are recommended.
Flying brass goes everywhere and it’s hot when it lands on bare skin - Eye and Ear protection as well as a baseball cap or brimmed hat are required all the time
- 400 Rounds of factory ammo.
We do not allow home reloads in our courses. You don’t want to be fighting your ammo in the course, use something you know will work - Back up guns are recommended in case your chosen gun breaks
- Whatever medications, liquids, food, band aids, sun screen, etc., you’ll need for the entire day.
The range is very remote and there will not be time to get something from the store - You will also need a box, gun case, or container of some sort to transport your gun from the car to the firing line. If you carry your gun on your person, no problem, you will be given time to switch everything you need.
- What we don’t want: ANY GUNS to be out of containers or holsters anywhere behind the firing line. Leave your gun in the holster or case when you arrive at class and we will all gear up for the class together, on the firing line, and the safest manner possible.
I look forward to training with you and having a boat load of fun!
