Self Defense Mind Set Part 3

Never give up! Never give up! NEVER GIVE UP!!!!

The fight is never over.  Once someone has attacked you, continue until they leave, you win, or you’re dead.  There is no other way.  You have to keep going.  If you get knocked down, get up.  If you get hit, hit back!  If you get stabbed, make sure they don’t stab you again.  If you get shot, keep going, you aren’t dead… yet.  No matter how bad it seems, or how bad it gets, keep going!  If you keep moving forward and keep fighting, sooner or later you’ll get a break and that is all you need to win.

Some of the worst criminals that attack people daily won’t give up until you are dead.  One of the worst cases I had contact with was when Officer Don Burt, California Highway Patrol, was killed in 1996.  From my memory; he did a traffic stop and the suspect got out of the vehicle and shot him 6 six times with a 9mm handgun.  It was in the middle of the day in a crowded parking lot in Fullerton.  I had a close friend that was across the parking lot in a restaurant and saw the end.  After being hit 6 times, Officer Burt went down and lay there on the ground.  A good amount of the shots where stopped by his vest, but for some reason he didn’t continue to fight.  While Officer Burt lay on the ground the suspect came up to him, in front of multiple witnesses, reloaded and then shot the officer in the head execution style.  The dirt bag then stole the officer’s gun and vehicle and left.  I didn’t follow the rest of the case.  I was a volunteer at the time with a local police department and helped on the crime scene.  Not a fond set of memories.  But I did learn that if you stop, they won’t.  The bad guy will not have any mercy and may or may not (his/her choice) kill you.  Don’t take that chance! Get up and continue to fight!

Never give up! Continue the fight.  If you know anything, if you can see or hear anything, if you can feel pain, you are still in the fight.  Don’t give up.

There is an old saying about knife fighting, “If you get in a knife fight, you are going to get cut.”  I add to that, if you get into a fist fight, you are probably going to get hit, if you get into a knife fight you are probably going to get cut, if you get into a gun fight you are probably going to be shot.  Notice I never said dead! Most people in the developed world survive gunshot wounds! You can be one of those.  You increase your chances of survival by limiting the number of times you get shot (enter sarcastic remark here).  You limit that number by ending the fight even if you are already shot!

Don’t give up! Continue the fight until you can’t.  Don’t stop! Just keep going! You can win! You’ve only lost when you stop fighting and submit to your attacker.

Stay Safe,

Ben
