Today: Don’t forget your self defense as your country and city start opening around you and you are headed out to have fun and get back to life.
This was going to happen sooner or later. We were going to get back to life and back to work. I’m ready… don’t know about you.
Different parts of the country should open at different rates. And just because they open doesn’t mean you have to go. Do your own threat assesment to your individual situation.
This video talks about when you start going back out. Remember all the other self defense thing you did before. There will be a new normal in your town no matter what anyone says on the news. You will adapt and overcome like your ancestors have for thousands of years. It will be okay.
Three things to remember as you head out to embrace what life will look like now:
- Be Patient
- Keep your Distance
- Have all your defensive tools
Be patient with people. We will all adapt to our new normal at different paces. Everyone is a little pissed off right now, going stir crazy at home, or just having a bad year. They may be pissed at the world and situation and not you, but it’s coming out directed at you.
Have a little extra patience as you deal with people, problems, and stores.
Continue to keep your distance. I don’t know if that will help for the virus but it will help for your self defense. Now you have the excuse to ask people to step back out of your personal space. Use this time to set a new normal for your personal distance. You can set it at double arms distance instead of being packed in places.
I know that it’s possible everywhere, but no longer except that people have to be on top of you in stores or in line. We can stay away from each other respectfully.
Keeping this six-foot distance can be your new normal and will make you safer. If someone wants to attack you, they have to violate that space. The bigger that personal bubble you can make around yourself the more time you have to decide if someone is there to hurt you and the more time you have to act before you get hurt.
The last one should go without saying, but I’m going to say it anyways. Have all your self defense tools. Everything you can carry legally plus some first aid supplies. You never know what will happen, when or where. Some of us are no longer in the habit of wearing our gear every day. Don’t forget it. Get use to it again. And take all of it with you.
