Years ago I was blessed to take an Urban Warfare Class at DARC as a US Marine. My unit was the first conventional force (Marine Infantry is technically a conventional force not a spec ops unit… I don’t think we did anything “conventionally” but that’s another story) to take a class at DARC.
DARC (Direct Action Resource Center) has lots of range, a small urban city block, and a huge shoot house. The city block and shoot house are designed for Sims or UTM rounds. I took the course in 2007 before UTMs and we used Sims.
We changed out the uppers on our M16A2 rifles for a 9mm Sim barrel and we shot the crap out of each other.
I learned lots of lessons and tactics that I still use and pass onto students today.
Here is a walk through of their shoot house I did last year at Tac Con. It was the first time I’d been back to DARC. It was a place I never thought I’d be allowed to visit again. It was a blast from the past to be able to walk through the facility again over 10 years later.
Here’s my Shoot House Walk Through:
