Do you know how your locks work? New cars are getting smarter. The locking mechanisms are designed to be easy to use and to keep you from locking yourself out.
My old Camaro had power door locks. It was super easy with no fancy brain to mess things up. Push the lock button and the doors lock, push the unlock button and the doors unlock. I didn’t even have a key fob, I still had to use the key.
My new Ford F250 has a brain controlling the door locks. I can’t lock the doors with the doors open and the truck running. If I push the unlock button once, only the driver’s door unlocks. I have to push the button twice to unlock the rest of the doors.
My wife’s Ford Escape works differently. It won’t lock any doors if one of the doors is open. It seems ever vehicle on the road today has a different combo of locking and unlocking. You should know your vehicle and how the locks work.
Criminals have started to learn how locks work on different cars. At grocery stores they will wait until someone is putting stuff in the back and slip into the car and wait. Imagine getting into your vehicle and finding someone sitting next to you. Even worst is some of these criminals have been slipping into the vehicle next to small children. My wife could have this problem. She puts the kid in the car first, then goes to the back and puts the groceries away.
Figure out how the locks work and use them. My wife’s Escape will lock the front doors while the back hatch is open. Now that we all have buttons on our keys it’s super easy, just use it.
Stay Safe,
Ben
The locks on your vehicle have two important functions. The first is to keep your passengers safely inside and the second is to prevent unwanted individuals from entering. Locked doors not only act as a deterrent to possible thieves, they are also an important safety feature in the event of a collision or impact.
There are a number of different locks found on most vehicles. You might find a lock for the ignition, doors, trunk, glove box, hood and more. Sometimes there may be a different key required for the locks in your car but most cars feature a master key that unlocks everything in the vehicle. Some vehicles are equipped with a keyless entry system that allows you to unlock the doors, and in some cases the trunk, with the push of a button or by punching in a code on a keypad.
I guess I have selected a mind blowing and interesting blog.
Hi Ben.
Yes using the locks is easy once you understand the vehicle you are using.
I'm always amazed when I ask people, "did you lock the car?" and they say something like , "Oh no, I was just going for a Coke and the car was gone. I've never had to lock it before."
I mean, the lock are there for a reason. I wish more people would use them.
Yours,
Malcolm
