“God made man, Samuel Colt made them equal.” I don’t know who said it, but it has some truth to it. Because some people are bigger and stronger then others, firearms bridges the gap. They put people on an even playing field. In fact, I’m 6’1” and about 280 the last time I was in Iraq, and I would have liked to be much smaller when I was being shot at. Firearms keep a strong bully from truly taking over the world.

On a global level, tyrannical dictators and governments will never stop making firearms. There for there will always be guns (or small arms as the military calls them). If there are any guns anywhere, bad guys will get them. Case in point, guns are illegal in Mexico and most South American countries, but the drug cartels have no problem getting guns. A lot of them come from governments. The government furnishes weapons to its police and army, a corrupt person is paid to sell or take those issued firearms to the cartels. In Iraq I took weapons from the enemy that were stamped “PROPERTY OF U.S. GOVT.” and I’m sure the same thing is happening around the world.
On a local level, we all need guns to protect ourselves. Even-though I’m a big guy with good training, two or three people could overtake me. An armed aggressor could easily get the best of me, if I’m not armed. Bad guys don’t play fair, and neither should you. Get a gun, learn how to use it, and try to avoid using it as much as possible. Think of a gun as safety devise, kind of like your seat belt. I put my seat belt on every time I get in the car, but I hope to never actually use it. My gun is the same way; I take it everywhere I can, and hope to never have to use it.
