Today: Defending yourself during Halloween.  It’s a great holiday, but takes some special consideration to.  Listen to some ideas about going to parties, having a party, and going trick or treating.

  • Plan to get there and get back
    • Plan A DD and safety person
    • Paln B Uber or other ride share program
  • Drinks
    • Hold your own/pour your own
    • Hand over the top
    • If you leave it someplace, get another one
  • Drinking
    • Plan how much to drink
    • If you choose to drink, leave your gun
    • If you have your gun, don’t drink
    • If you have kids have a plan for it
  • Costumes
    • Girls: Something a little less risqué maybe
    • Guys, no real weapons
    • Something you can be comfortable in
    • Something you can walk in
  • Map Study
  • Drive by
  • Know your exits
  • Do a walk through
  • Stay on outside of large crowds
  • Cops get there
    • Probably time to go
    • You are not the spokesman unless it’s at your house
  • Party at your house
    • Inspect prop weapons
      • Zip tie them in holsters or clear. No live ammo
      • If you have drinking, have them leave real weapons in the car
      • California police killed someone with a prop gun in 2000
    • Have an ending time
    • Lockup thing that shouldn’t be seen
    • Pickup stuff you don’t want to disappear or get broken
    • Remember people always bring a plus 1 that you don’t know

Trick or Treating

  • Most probable problem; getting hit by a car
  • Lights everywhere
    • You carry a light, right?
    • You have glow sticks/chem lights on your kids
    • Lights on you and everyone
  • Brief your kids before you leave on expectations
  • Know the area (map study)
  • Phone Charged
  • Pick a neighborhood
  • Don’t go in houses
  • Don’t let people in your house
  • Self Defense weapons
    • Gun – Bigger gun, longer distances, bigger clothes
    • Bags
    • Knives
    • Pepper Spray
  • Use of Force
    • Bag Snatchers
    • Kidnapping
    • Drive by shootings
      • Real
      • Paintball
      • Pellet Guns
    • Personal Attacks

Awareness

  • Keep personal space
  • Hands up in large crowds
  • Watch people and ask why are they there?
  • Don’t be afraid to leave
  • Make space is okay
  • Stay away from large crowds of teenagers especially males
